Bold Contemporary Color statements and Dynamic Design.  Indulge your senses and experience the vibrancy and emotion expressed in Don’s paintings.  His relationship with nature, wildlife, and the outdoors is reflected in traditional watercolor, bright acrylic, and oil mediums

Art has always been Don’s major field of education, earning a degree in commercial art.  His career in graphic arts began as a technical illustrator where he developed his exceptional skill of creating detailed renderings.  In 1976, Don began serious studies in watercolor, attending many classes and workshops.  In recent years he has expanded his interest to include Plein Air painting in oils, allowing him to combine his ability to paint detail with the spontaneity of painting outdoors while taking advantage of the creative techniques both mediums provide.

Don is known for the wide variety of subjects he paints, many of which are inspired by his travels throughout the country and from living in the Colorado Rocky Mountains, the great prairies of Nebraska, the beautiful coastline of California, and desert of Southern Arizona.  His deep love and respect for the land and its history is reflected in his paintings.

Don’s work has been widely exhibited on the West Coast and in the Southwest where he has participated in several group and one-man shows.  His paintings have been juried into many national exhibitions, including the Rocky Mountain National Watermedia Exhibition, the Louisiana International Watercolor Exhibition, and the prestigious C.M. Russell Museum.  He has won many awards, most recently the Arizona Governor’s Arts Award for his painting Coyote Medicine, the AWA General Fund Cash Award from the Western Federation Watercolor Societies.  His paintings, including several commissioned works hang in many private collections in the United States and Europe. Don is a signature member of Southern Arizona Watercolor Guild and an associate member of the National Watercolor Society, Transparent Watercolor Society, and Oil Painters of America.

Don and his wife Ranna live in Oro Valley, Arizona where the stunning beauty of the Sonora Desert provides inspiration for his paintings.
